#MotivateMe Monday: Transitioning to Race Training

Hi, everyone! Happy Monday! New week means a fresh start, right?

I decided to do a #MotivateMe Monday for the first time in FOREVER! I love looking to a new week, tweaking what didn't work from the last week and continuing with what did! You can join the fun too, just check out Janice, Lucie, and/or Rachel's blogs!

It's now spring, which means more time to run OUTSIDE and start training for ALL the races! I'm planning on eight this year, with a possible ninth one! Cue the freaking out!

To get a baseline, I actually ran the second of my virtual races on Saturday. For those who don't know, I won two entries back in February as part of a Super Bowl giveaway. The second was St. Patrick's themed, so I decided to hold off until the weekend to do it.

The result: Not as fast as I hoped, but given that it was windy and cold, plus my longest outdoor run since October, I'll take it!

I also took Centergy and Barre on Saturday. Both are no joke! I was feeling all the soreness, and all the emotional pain after my boys of UConn got knocked out of the tournament on Saturday night. Rooting for Duke the rest of the way now!

Yesterday I never made it to the gym, since my car didn't start. I let myself have a fit, then popped in two of my fav Biggest Loser DVD's and got my move on at home! I also walked to get all the steps in and keep my Fitbit streak alive at 50 days!

As for this week, I plan on going full throttle with the race training. My season starts earlier than in the past, and I need to work a third day of running in. My typical plan will be three days of running (Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday), two days of cross-training (Wednesday and Saturday). Friday will be a total rest day, and Monday will only be core work. This week will be a bit different since I didn't get my spin class in yesterday morning. Here's this week's plan:

Monday-Core and Ride
Tuesday-Run (1.5-2 miles)
Wednesday-Ride and Power
Thursday-Run (1.5-2 miles) and Yoga
Friday-REST
Saturday-Ride, Core, and Centergy
Sunday-Run (2 miles) and Power

There you have it! Getting back into a routine and already feeling good about it! Less than six weeks until my first race of the year! It'll be here before I know it!

How was your weekend? What are you planning on for this week?

  1. OH spring, such a happy time. It's so great to get out there and run without wearing every single piece of running clothing you own. Good luck on your training. Looks like you are off to a good start this week!
